Well, all of the preliminary bullshit is over. It's official. I am set up to check into the hospital at Emory on Wed AM- around 8. I will first get my central line catheter, kind of like a big ole IV, except its in my neck going behind my collarbone. I guess the clean & jerk is out at the gym for a bit. Once that is done, I'll be given room, board and 3 squares a day for 3-4 days. Kind of like a mini jail stay, I guess. The reason for the hospitilization is because the chemo drip will be around the clock for a couple of days, and not just for a few hours. I have been advised its easier to just go in there to take it on the chin for a few days rather than get all the crap set up at home.
I'll have 3 of these sessions every other week. I'll be re-staged at the end of the 2nd session to make sure we are on track. After the 3rd session, my stem cells will be harvested.
Im kind of anxious to get this all started. I know the quicker I start, the quicker its over. But at the same time, I'm just a wee bit nervous. This is a completely different kind of chemo, and I am not real fancy of hospitals. It's where sick people go.
Heard a good one the other day- I think it will be one of my mottos this time around. "I have cancer. Cancer does not have me."
I'll update everyone as soon as I am in the hospital with whats up, how I am feeling and visitation info if that is allowable. I'm assuming at this stage, it is. Well, I guess I better live it up this weekend. Cheers!
